The Japanese seiyuu scene is filled to the brim with talented voice actors, and now the Philippines has been graced with one of the “angelic voices” from one of the gentlest souls in this world.
Aoi Shouta, a Japanese seiyuu, singer, and actor. In 2011, he began voice acting and gained media attention after voicing Mikaze Ai from Utano☆Princesama. Since then, he has been recognized for roles such as Toujo Hideaki from Diamond no Ace, Tsukushi Monet in Magic-Kyun! Renaissance, Minazuki Rui from the Tsukiuta series, Kisaragi Louis from King of Prism series, Licht von Glanzreich from Oushitsu Kyoushi Heine, Geordo Stuart in HameFura, Kaiser Insight/Mana Senri in Princess Connect Re:Dive, and many more. As a singer, Shoutan debuted with the song “BLUE BIRD” in 2013.
Filipino seiyuu fans have long waited for Shoutan to be a guest here in the Philippines, now Setsu-Ani along with other Cosplay.PH‘s media partners were given a chance to sit down with Shoutan for an exclusive interview where he shares experiences in the industry, tips to aspiring seiyuu’s, dream roles, collaborations, memorable moments, and colleagues Shoutan can drag here in the Philippines someday? Join us as we share what we learned about Aoi Shouta here.
Shoutan as an artist and his dreams

Before the interview started, Shoutan thanked (in English) the attendance of members of the media even if it was already late and everybody is tired.
Question: Many fans and colleagues describe your voice as “angelic” and unique. How do you take care of your voice, and what’s your secret to maintaining such a pure and captivating sound?
Aoi Shouta: First of, aside from basic care that are also being done by other voice actors or singers, I don’t have a special or unique way of taking care of my voice. I like spicy food (gestures a shocked face when you eat super spicy food during the interpreters time), and eats a lot of it even if it’s not good for my throat. Then I make sure I do humming daily (Shoutan did a humming sample as he answered earlier). If muscles are not used, they weaken; so, I do humming daily to practice my muscles.
Question: As both a voice actor and singer, are there times when your experiences in one field influence how you perform in the other?
Aoi Shouta: Yes, it is. My as a singer, I include emotions and since I also do theater, the emotions also translate to the lyrics of my song. So both experiences in the field helps me.
Question: Do you have a particular dream role whether it be anime, games, movies, TV, or others?
Aoi Shouta: I have already done a lot of roles, on the other hand I want to know what fans want to see next. As for a role I wants to do, I wants to portray a ninja in a movie. *Shoutan enthusiastically gestures throwing kunai’s (ninja stars) as the interpreter interprets his answer to the said question*
Question: Is there any particular artist that you would want to collaborate with?
Aoi Shouta: I have collaborated with various artists until now but I would like to collaborate with Kiyoshi Hikawa (aka KIINA, an enka singer) because his creativity is very good, and he has a lot of passion and soul into his works and I think that’s beautiful.
Shoutan’s advice as an artist to aspiring talents

For the next question Setsu-Ani got to ask the said question after a different unique question which will be discussed further in this article. Franz is our respective correspondent who got to talk with Shoutan for this interview.
F: If you want to give your fans advice to succeed in life for example in pursuing their dreams in being a seiyuu or a singer, what would be your advice to them?
Aoi Shouta: Don’t be afraid to take on the challenge! I also faced a lot of challenges since we don’t know what the future has in store for us. But if you really want to be a seiyuu or you like anime, I think there will be a lot of nervousness in pursuing that career or that dream but please don’t be afraid of challenges.
F: Thank you very much, arigatou gozaimasu, that will be all from us, and we will take your advice to heart. Thank you very much.
Aoi Shouta: Thank you so muchhh! *gestures a wave*
From here on, other members of the media asked questions to Shoutan.
Shoutan sharing stories from his songs, and in meeting fans

Question: What’s a song of yours that holds a very personal meaning, and why?
Aoi Shouta: I have a self-written song, its called “I am”, It talks about my insecurities and experiences in life. A lot of people can relate to the song and I belive it can support them or if they want to cry, they can listen to the song as it holds a personal meaning for me.
Question: You’ve performed in many events with passionate fans — can you share a memorable fan encounter that touched you?
Aoi Shouta: There are two things, recently I got to visit different countries. Even if its very short I am very happy with the time I get to meet with my fans even if I’m nervous and about to cry and laugh, I was very happy to be with everyone in that short time. I also get a lot of messages from fans, which is a memorable thing also. Second was when I had a event when I get to hand out mini posters, fans would put their hands together (Shoutan gestures a prayer while recalling the moments), seemingly in prayer. It seems like I became a god who can grant prayers.
Question: Looking ahead, how would you like people to remember “Shouta Aoi” many years from now—as a singer, a voice actor, or perhaps something even more personal?
Aoi Shouta: I am actually very grateful if you can actually support me after 10 years or more. I am also very thankful to all my fans and I hope that I will also be remembered for my creativity and individuality I do in my voice acting, so I hope to be able to come near to your life and your heart as well.
Question: How did you feel when you discovered that you have a lot of fans in the Philippines and that they were excited to see you perform?
Aoi Shouta: I am really happy to know about it! When I arrived at the Philippines earlier, I posted (on X, formerly Twitter), that I have arrived in Manila. A lot of fans were replying “Welcome! Welcome! Irasshai!”, I am very happy and grateful for your support. I was very excited that I wasn’t able to sleep right away last night.
Question: What has been your fondest memory of performing live in front of an audience?
Aoi Shouta: One that I have the fondest memory of is when I was having a live performance, there was a lady bug who also came to enjoy the show with us. We had to protect it and had it rescued due to the risk that it would be stepped on. What was on my mind was, “please go to a safe place, please fly away!”. That scene was very memorable and that was actually captured in one of my DVDs.
Shoutan if he isn’t in the showbiz industry

Question: If you could take on a “dream project” outside of music and acting, like fashion, gaming, or something unexpected, what would it be?
Aoi Shouta: I actually love sweets very much, I if I would be able to do a dream project it would open a sweets café that I could put my ideas and imagination in producing sweets.

Shoutan‘s message to fans

Question: You’ve inspired fans all over the world with your voice and performances. Could you share a message with your fans who have supported you throughout your journey—and those who are just discovering your work?
Aoi Shouta: I am very thankful for you mentioning that. My voice used to be an insecurity for a time, there was a time I was very insecure about it but through time. This has become my strength and treasure, and because of it I was able to meet everyone. Through this, I was able to meet everyone and this became the biggest thing in my life. I want to thank everyone and convey my love to everyone continuously from now.
Question: What can your fans look forward to next from Aoi Shotai? Is there anything you’d like to say to your Filipino fans?
Aoi Shouta: I will be having my first orchestra concert next year, I hope you look forward to that. It may not be easy for Filipino fans to join me in Japan, but for those who can join, I hope they also enjoy it and for those who cannot come. For those who cannot join, I hope to give them or relay my emotions, and thanks. This is my first time in the Philippines so I look forward to my performance tomorrow and give my gratiture through my performance.
Shoutan’s final message to everyone was that he is thankful for everyones support because of it he was able to fly here in the Philippines. He hopes this becomes an opportunity as well to be able to go to other countries I still haven’t been to and fans yet to meet. He hopes to walk with everyone as well in the future and looks forward to everyones support.
