The Godzilla Film Festival roared into SM Cinemas Megamall on October 14, and the king of the monsters thrilled fans on opening day! Powered by Go Asia Entertainment, the festival gave Filipino fans a rare, exciting chance to experience Godzilla the way he was meant to be seen: towering, mighty, and in a theater.

Upon arriving at the SM Cinema block, we were warmly greeted by the organizers from Go Asia Entertainment, our gracious hosts for the day. Nearly half of the cinema block became a dedicated space for attendees, with giant sintra board posters of all five featured films standing proudly for fans to admire.

The Lineup: Five Films, One King
The festival’s roster celebrates decades of kaiju greatness: Godzilla vs. Mothra (1964), Godzilla 2000, Godzilla vs. Biollante, Godzilla: Final Wars, and finally Shin Godzilla.
Opening day belonged to Shin Godzilla, the brilliant re-imagining of the legendary kaiju through the eyes and storytelling of Hideaki Anno, best known as the creator of Neon Genesis Evangelion. First released in 2016, it gave the monster a fresh, bold new life with Anno’s unmistakable style. The film is also part of the Shin Japan Heroes Universe, alongside Shin Ultraman, Shin Evangelion, and Shin Kamen Rider.

At 7 PM, the screening began. As attendees took their seats, a cheerful emcee welcomed everyone and introduced the five films in rotation. The cinema was filled with passionate Godzilla fans, joined by excited newcomers discovering the franchise for the first time. Best of all, the film came with English subtitles, so everyone could enjoy the story with ease.
